BioI'm a business professional based in Chicago. I play guitar (badly) and sing (not quite as badly), and write musical satire/parody as a hobby.
I hike, bike and kayak during the way too short Chicago summer, and try to get away to somewhere in the winter where I can do the same. Favorite hiking spots are S. Utah, N. California, and parts of Montana. I've kayak here on Lake Michigan as well as the Baja Peninsula in Mexico.
I have two cats adopted from a shelter, and work with and contribute to animal welfare charities. Yes, my cats are spoiled, no, I'm not a crazy cat lady.
I have a passion for live theater and music - they're my drugs. There's something about live performances that cannot be reproduced in a movie on TV. I'll take a mediocre live performance over a well produced movie anyday. My musical interests are extremely diverse - anything from opera and classical to ska, country, ragtime, Tuvan throat singing; there's almost nothing I don't like.
I read mostly non-fiction, generally biographies, science/environmental essays, memoirs, Latin American history, travel stories and what I call disaster stories. Give me a good hurricane, tornado, flood, or fire story and I'm yours.
Fiction interests include mysteries, selected American authors, mid-east lit.
Not as widely traveled as I'd like to be but I'm working on it. Visited a fair amount of Mexico and Central America, and major European capitals. I think I've been to almost every state in the US and most National Park's west of the Mississippi.
I'm just beginning to try my hand at fan fic for Torchwood. I'm hoping to put up theater, music reviews starting in the fall.
